Don’t Save for College

Wait, what? Are you actually saying that we should not save for college? This is what you might be thinking, but give us a chance to explain. You need to make sure that you have enough money for college, but there could be times that you do not need to save. The following is some information that can help you with this idea. You might think that it is crazy right now, but make your mind up after you have done all the research. You need to act in the best way for your financial life and your educational life. Who knows, you might even find that saving is something that you do not need to do.

Scholarships!

Millions of dollars go unused in scholarship money every year. If you are going to take the time to save then you need to take your time and really focus on scholarships. If you were to research your options every night and fill out weekly applications then you could find that getting a scholarship is no trouble. Do not think that it is too tough though. That is the attitude that many people have and that is why millions of dollars go unused. Do not get so caught up saving your own money when you can get other people’s money instead!

There are Cheaper Routes

Some people save up money for college routes that their kids are never going to take. Not everyone is going to go to an Ivy league school. This means that a lot of your time and money could be spent saving for a college experience that your kid will not have, or even want. Local colleges are much cheaper, and you can even begin to save a lot later for those options. This way you will have some more money to spend but you will not lose sight of the money needed for an education. Sometimes the smaller picture is alright to look at.

Robbing Peter to Pay Paul

Using retirement funds on your child’s education may not be the best idea. You are not helping your retirement plan by doing this. It might seem like the right thing at the time, but in the future you might look back on it and frown. The examples we just laid out and reasons why finding money for school might not be something that is too difficult. Also, you should not feel like bad parents if you act financially responsible. All this does is push your children to work for something on their own.
