Have you ever thought about your class rank? Well, some students might not think about it other then knowing there is this one girl or boy in their class who is obsessed with being number one. With that said, is class rank something that is very important any longer? Do colleges really care about this and take this into consideration when they are determining who they are going to let in and who they are going to leave out? Let’s talk a little bit about class rank and how it might affect you. You need to be thinking about the best way to get into the college of your choice. Do not mess around with this process at any time.
Class rank might be on its way out. Many high schools have stopped providing it all together. These high schools are noticing that the difference between a student in the top five and the top ten is very minimal, but the class rank will not show that. Both types of those students may be high A students, so they are choosing to let the G.P.A. reflect that instead. If it is on the way out in high schools then it might just be on the way out for colleges. If this still means something to you though then you should still fight for it. It couldn’t hurt.
Do not read this and believe that grades are not holding much weigh as they use to. The grades are still important, so you need to make sure that you continue to study as much as possible. A class rank does not affect your grade at all because it is a reflection of those grades. Just because class rank is being phased out does not mean that a G.P.A. is begin phased out. Still make sure that you are studying and doing your best to learn everything. The colleges will still want to see that you have been a good student.
Instead of a class rank you might want to switch your focus over to your college application. Think of things that you can do that will really reflect well on you in your application process. This is when being involved outside of school can really come in helpful. Do not focus on class rank so much that you lose sight of the bigger picture. The colleges want to see that you are a well rounded person and that you have a fulfilling lifestyle. Go out there and help with the homeless or something! Show them you are more then a grade.
