In order to really get ahead and open up every opportunity for yourself, you really need more than a bachelor’s degree in today’s job market. Knowing this already, most people turn to the ever popular MBA, but is that the right option for you? Depending on the type of career you’re interested in, an MBA may not be the best degree choice. The MBA is fairly general and probably won’t give you the specialized training you’ll need for climbing the career ladder. It may not even be an option at all if you haven’t taken some of the prerequisite courses in accounting or economics. So which type of degree should you pursue instead of an MBA? - Master of Arts Administration - The arts administration degree can be a great alternative for someone interested in the more business related aspects of music, movies, art, museums, or theater.
- Master of Education Administration - This type of degree usually focuses on primary, secondary, or higher education. If you’re planning a career in any of the three then this could be a viable option.
- Master of Human Resources - If you plan on having a career in human resources and staying in it, then this is definitely the degree for you.
- Master of Public Health - A master’s in public health can fit the needs of anyone working in health care or any type of agency concerned with health care delivery. There’s also a master of health care administration degree for those with health insurance companies or gerontology centers.
- Master of Sports Administration - Though you may need some sports experience before entering this degree program, it fits well with anyone interested in running a college athletic program or working in a professional sports league.
- Master’s in Urban Planning - A master’s in urban planning may seem like it’s only for city planners, but it can also be highly beneficial for those involved with residential development, construction companies, and architecture firms.
